Why should we Remember?

By Michayla Kirsch on November 6, 2023

Remembering is different for lots of different people, for lots of different reasons. Some remember to honour a loved one’s passing, to honour a fellow soldier, to honour a stranger who gave their life so we could have peace.

Terry Kelly’s A Pittance of Time music video always helps me to remember the importance of Remembrance Day and why we remember; the remembrance to those who have lost their lives and the lost souls that were given for our protection, our happiness and our everyday lives.

Peace is hard to come by now for some, with the wars happening everyday around the world… Remembering should be in solidarity with those who share a common thought in that peace should be a right in which everyone has and everyone should want.

Remembering for me is to remember how I am to be where I am now. Remembering for me is to remember anyone who served and is serving. The peace I feel today was the anguish and pain someone else had to endure yesterday. This is why I remember. This is why I feel like everyone should remember.

It’s important not to forget the past and to reflect on how it shaped our world today. World War I and II have shaped our world, the wars happening around our world are shaping our world. Remembrance Day is a day to reflect all of this and reflect on everyone who has passed.

So if you haven’t yet today, remember, be thankful, and take a moment to send a thought to perhaps someone who helped protect us.

Attend one of the Remembrance Day Ceremonies happening around you, or watch it from where you’re most comfortable. Be vulnerable with yourself and with others by remembering.
