Why NR92’s Country Music selection is superior

NR92 has a wide variety of artists and sounds that are categorized as “Country Music.” With classic country artists like George Strait and Alan Jackson, to new up-and-comers like Warren Zeiders and Max McNown. You really can’t go wrong with listening to the country music NR92 has to offer. But let’s get into it more.

College radio stations were originally designed to play top artists in all categories, but not to play their top songs or the ones that are being played on Top-40 stations. This is where NR92 differs from the typical college station and the usual Top 40 station. As NR92 plays both.

With our music being chosen by the students who run the station, it makes for an easy choice of top artists from all categories, but not using their most popular songs.

One of my personal favorite categories of music is country music, as it’s what I’ve grown up with. So when getting to NR92 and getting to operate on-air, thus choosing some of the music that gets played on-air, country is typically my go-to. As said, we have Alan Jackson, George Strait, as well as artists who have dropped new music recently, like Ella Langley, Megan Moroney, Morgan Wallen, and Bailey Zimmerman.

In our system, we only have so much music; therefore, we don’t have every song that every artist has made. In fact, Bailey Zimmerman only made his way into our system as of September 2025, even though he has been making music and topping the charts since 2021. But the reason he took so long to get into our system was that if the students don’t listen to his music, he doesn’t get added.

But this means we have a better selection of music because we will 1) only play what we have typically and 2) play some older songs that may or may not have topped the charts, because sometimes they are older songs being added now. Which means you get a taste of the artists you love, with some nostalgia.

Now you are probably still wondering how it’s superior. Well, my last point to make extends to relevant artists with lesser-known songs. Currently on the station, we are playing “Bad” By Warren Zeiders. Warren is currently on tour and has hit the charts with his songs “Relapse” and “Pretty Little Poison,” but his song “Bad” isn’t charting on other radio stations in the same way. But with NR92, you get to hear Warren as well as his music, but just not the music you would hear on non-college stations.
