Who Really Plays These Simulator Games? Really?
By Maxwell Read on September 23, 2024
Right out of the gate I have to say I am an avid simulator game player. You’d know that if you listened to Game Guys: Talk About Games, every Thursdays at 5-6 PM. Simulators are near and dear to me, and you’ll probably hear me mention one or two if you’re a regular listener. That being said, there are a few simulator games I may not be able to get to on the show, so here are a few I very much need to mention…
Rock Simulator – When you’ve gotten bored of your screensaver, try Rock Simulator! Be a rock. Yup, that it. I’ve heard it’s quite relaxing.
Goat Simulator – Many have heard of this game, so much so it has garnered two sequels! As much as I love simulators, and just how ridiculous I’ve heard this game to be, I still can’t bring myself to spend actual money on a game called Goat Simulator.
PC building Simulator – I could never understand why someone would want to play this, until I talked to a friend of mine who said, “I love PC building Simulator! I can test out builds before I try and do it for real, it’s really handy.” Everyone is different, I guess, so even the silliest games will draw players.
PowerWash Simulator – This was a free game some months ago on the PlayStation Plus subscription service, so there may be a few of you out there who decided to give it a try. I added it to my library, but mainly as a joke (also, because it was free at the time) as I just couldn’t think of who would play this. I’ve heard it’s quite satisfying and relaxing, though.
Car Mechanic Simulator – I was very skeptical of this game for a while, but one day I had a weird urge to disassemble something, and as luck would have it Car Mechanic Simulator was – again – a free game on the PlayStation Plus service. After a little while, I started to really like it. It’s kind of like a 3D puzzle; figuring out what is broken from the annoyingly vague description of what the car “isn’t doing”. And after having done some real car repair, this game became very cathartic for me. I can remove a wheel just by holding down the X button for a while; the lug nuts magically disappear (and I don’t have to remember where I put them), and the wheel pops off and goes into my “inventory”. You know, instead of my hands, where they’d get all black and dirty. If only car repair could be done via video game, eh?
Airport Simulator Day & Night – I really tried this game. I tried! Normally, I like these kinds of games. I’ve played the Airport Simulators that are kind of free to play online, with a top-down view of the airport, and it’s just a matter of clicking where you want the planes to go (passenger unload, line-up for takeoff, avoid plane collisions, etc.) but this game was really trying to get to the next level and just made it silly. It’s first-person, and… well driving across the whole airport to tell a plane to go to passenger unload just seemed… unreal. It’s a simulator, that’s the opposite of what it’s supposed to be going for. Maybe I missed the walkie-talkie upgrade somewhere.
Tune in to Game Guys: Talk about games every Thursday at 5 PM for more of the silliest games information!
