Top 3 NHL teams this season

By Zachary Kubusch on October 17, 2023

The NHL is back in full force and to celebrate the return of hockey, I’ve ranked my picks for the best 3 teams in the league.

Honourable mentions: Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers

3. Vegas Golden Knights

Fresh off winning their first Stanley Cup, the Golden Knights still have most of their championship team intact. They were able to resign all of their big trade deadline pickups which makes up for losing Reilly Smith. Vegas plays on a highly elite level in every facet of the game and they have an insane amount of depth throughout their entire lineup.

2. New Jersey Devils

I place the New Jersey Devils at second this season as their ceiling is so high with all the talent they have. The team is slotted with tons of young, up-and-coming players who are just learning the game at the NHL level. The Devil’s top draft pick from last year, Simon Nemec, aims to add another layer to this insanely dangerous team. They are better every time they step on the ice and by the end of the year, I think they will prove to be a serious contender for the cup.

1. Carolina Hurricanes

The best team in the NHL has to be the Hurricanes. They have a highly sharpened skill set of both talent and pure force. They have an experienced team who knows what they’re doing and I think they’ll be able to stand strong with their proven defence and lethal offence on the front end. Last year, Frederik Andersen had some trouble in goal but he will come into his own once again to show that he’s a top 5 goalie in the league.
