Three Bands You’ll LOVE If You Like Blue October

Art I made featuring elements from Blue October album covers. In particular, the face from “History for Sale” is featured in the wreath of flowers from “Spinning the Truth Around (Part 1)”, both being surrounded by a black circle.

If you’re a fan of alternative music from the late ‘90s to the early ‘00s, you might be familiar with Blue October and front-man Justin Furstenfeld.

Furstenfeld has done a lot over the years that will be covered here. A particular favourite of mine from the band Blue October is “Fight for Love”.

Justin Furstenfeld has been a fan of the band Longwave for years. He became friends with lead singer Steve Schiltz when they toured together in 2009. Both bands celebrated the release of a new album: Blue October’s Approaching Normal and Longwave’s Secrets are Sinister. This lead to future collaborations between the two. A great song that I would recommend by Longwave would be “Sirens of the Deep Sea.”

Hurricane Bells was the first collaborative project for Schiltz and Furstenfeld. Hurricane bells did a cover of Blue October’s “Into the Ocean”. In exchange, Furstenfeld provided vocals and harmonica on a couple of tracks for Hurricane Bells, including this track, “Possibilities.”

Years later, Schiltz and Furstenfeld teamed up with other Blue October band members to form Harvard of the South. Harvard of the South released a 2014 EP and an album in 2020. A song I’d love to highlight by this band would be “Without.”

I think that all of this proves that Justin Furstenfeld has a lot to offer, including a great voice. Having done all this and still going, I for one, am looking forward to whatever Furstenfeld does next.
