The redemption of Ronnie Radke of Falling in Reverse

If you’re a fan of post-hardcore rock then NR92 has you covered with maybe one of the most iconic bands in the genre, Falling in Reverse. Falling in Reverse sits amongst the top of bands of this style of music. It was a grind for them to get there, and this is highlighted best by the journey of tribulation and redemption of their lead singer Ronnie Radke.

Before forming Falling in Reverse, Radke was in a band called Escape the Fate, a band he and his friends from high school formed in 2004. As most high school bands do, they didn’t find immediate success, but they stuck with it, winning a radio contest in 2006 judged by My Chemical Romance, and signing with Epitaph Records because of it. The first song they recorded under their new label was called There’s no Sympathy for the Dead, and while not a massive hit, it put them on the map.

For Radke, ironically, he would not be able to escape his fate as in 2008, he would be given a two and a half year prison sentence for violating his probation. Radke grew up in a broken home with a mother who abused substances, leading him down a dark path that would cause him to have multiple altercations with the law throughout his early life, including narcotics offences, domestic violence, and assault charges. Following his sentencing, he would be kicked out of Escape my Fate, and replaced by Craig Mabbitt, formerly of Blessthefall. Radke felt betrayed by his former friends as they bashed him online, and he would end up doing the same in retaliation.

While in Prison, Radke would form what is now Falling in Reverse, but at the time went by From behind these Walls. During his time locked away, he spent a lot of time reflecting on his life to that point. The drugs, the anger… he wanted a fresh start, and Falling in Reverse would give him just that upon his release in 2010. Once released, the band would record their first single Raised by Wolves, followed by their first album in 2011 The Drug in Me Is You, headlined by a song of the same name.

After his release from prison, Radke committed to his promise of a fresh start, cleaning up his act and putting it into his music. The band’s first two albums would reach the top 20 in the United States, and all four he’s since released have made the top 40. The band’s popularity really began to rise after the song you just heard, Popular Monster, reached number one on Billboard’s Mainstream rock chart in 2020. Radke also does some solo work, starting in 2013, creating a youtube channel and mostly using it as a platform to post songs that didn’t fit Falling in Reverse’s brand. He and the band now sit as an iconic Post-harcore slash Metal Rap band, thanks to Radke’s incredible vocal range.
