The Oilers Terrible Season Continues

By Zachary Kubusch on November 8, 2023

Being in Edmonton you can’t avoid knowing how bad the Oilers are playing.

On the season, the Oilers are 2-8-1 and standing second last in the league. The only team below them is the San Jose Sharks at 1-10-1. Even though the Oilers aren’t the worst team in the league technically, they have the worst save percentage in the NHL with a .864 team SV%.

In response to the team’s poor back-end support, the Oilers have sent down goaltender Jack Campbell to the Bakersfield Condors of the AHL. Replacing Campbell is Calvin Pickard who has been struggling to find himself in consistent NHL action for the last few years.

To add to the already unfortunate mess that is the current Oilers franchise, head coach Jay Woodcroft was the first Oilers coach since 1983 to be ejected from a game after receiving a game misconduct in the 6-2 loss against the Canucks.

Things like this and more are discussed on our very own after-hours shows. The Rundown with Donovan and Sebastian is live on Tuesdays from 4 to 5 p.m. and right after, BirdsEye Sports Guys is live from 5 to 7 discussing all things around the world of sports.
