Q&A: The future of E-Sports at NAIT

By on March 26, 2026

With a welcoming community such as the E-Sports club, it’s no wonder they are becoming more and more popular. With their rapid growth, it’s anyone’s guess at where the success can lead them. I sat down with Jacob Sacrey to discuss the potential future of E-Sports at NAIT.

Q: Have you done any major events, and is there any planned for the future?

A: “Yeah, so that would probably be our biggest achievement. CES, 2025 was our large-scale tournament last year, free to enter, Smash Bros and Valorant, and it was a LAN tournament at Norquest. Keep an eye out for CES 2026!

Q: How are these events funded, where do you get the resources to host a gaming tournament?

A: “Huge credit to to Norquest for even throwing it and putting together all the pieces to even make it happen with their computers, but mostly the actual prize money came from NAITSA. We applied for a grant that fully sponsored a prize pool, and that’s why it’s free. We didn’t need to get any members to pay for anything.”

Q: Do you plan on revolving the club around events like these?

A: It’s definitely something we want to grow, and that’s part of our plan is to kind of have NAIT have that program and make it official

Q: Is the club only revolved around competitive gaming, or do you have just as much casual players?

A: “I think there’s there’s a there’s a group of both, and they’re not like divided. They’re very collective, those gaps kind of cross over. The competitive people kind of want to lay down, sometimes sit back, and then there’s the more casual people that like to get into the more competitive stuff after they’ve joined.”
