The four biggest sports stories this week

By Zachary Kubusch on September 26, 2023

The sports world is always changing and has new stories every day. Because of that, I’ve got the top four stories from this week.

  • 4. The Provincial Women’s Hockey League had their very first draft this week which had Minnesota take their home-grown player from the NCAA, Taylor Heise. Montreal took the first Canadian in the draft at sixth overall with Erin Ambrose.
  • 3. Mike Babcock stepped down from the head coach position with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He did so after the NHLPA opened an investigation on Babcock for invading the privacy of his players. The Blue Jackets promoted Pascal Vincent to replace Babcock as the lead of the team.
  • 2. All-Pro running back, Nick Chubb, endured a gruesome knee injury in Monday night’s matchup against the Steelers. Chubb will be out for at least the rest of the season because of the injury. In response, the Cleveland Browns have signed their former running back, Kareem Hunt, to a one-year deal.
  • 1. The biggest news of the week is with Shohei Ohtani’s elbow surgery. Ohtani won’t be able to play until the start of next season and won’t be able to pitch until 2025. Ohtani becomes a free agent at the end of this season. Being such a versatile player, Ohtani will have interest from lots of teams around the league.

Breaking sports news like this is talked about weekly on NR92’s very own Birdseye Sports Guys. Every Tuesday night from 5 to 7 Landon and Zach discuss the sports you love.
