The Best Unique Christmas Gift Ideas for Your Loved Ones
By Danielle McClements on December 6, 2023
Christmas is coming up hot and if you’re like me, there are a few people in your life who are extremely tough to shop for. You know what they like, but you don’t know what to get them. You want to make it meaningful, even though you know they’d happily accept socks. Lucky for you, I searched the internet and my brain for the best unique gift ideas to get your loved ones this holiday season.
A book you know they’ll enjoy, annotated by you 📖
By itself, a book is a good enough present. It’s something that’ll keep them entertained for a while and then they can put it on their shelf and think of you when they look at it. To take it up a step though, consider reading through it yourself and leaving notes for them to stumble across. It makes the book so much more personal and enjoyable. It’s like they’re reading it with you sitting right beside them giving commentary on what’s happening in the book.
Not to flex, but I tried this idea out just a couple of years ago for one of my best friends. I gave her a copy of a book that we both enjoyed when we were kids, wrote a long letter to her inside the cover, then went through, read it myself and added comments and pictures wherever I wanted. She loved it! I felt like Father Christmas!
A locket with a picture of your beautiful face in it 😁
There’s a reason why people have been giving other people lockets for decades. This is an affordable gift that really shows someone you care about them. If you have a partner who likes to kick it old-school style and appreciates the vintage things in life, this would be a perfect gift! The only tough part is getting a picture of your face small enough to fit in the locket, but after some trial and error, you’ll eventually have a sweet, sentimental gift.
Surprise, surprise! I have also given a locket as a gift in the past and the recipient, once again, loved it. Not only that, but I’ve been on the receiving end of this gift and I can confirm I love it, still wear it, and will never give it away.
An ice cream subscription that delivers them pints every month 🍦
Does anything sound better than the idea of a bag of ice cream arriving at your doorstep unprompted?
Signing someone up for a subscription that you know they’ll appreciate is a really easy way to win Christmas. I’ve chosen to focus on ice cream in this blog, but there are a ton of great subscription services out there that could make an easy gift. In the case of ice cream, there are plenty of local options located around the city offering subscription services. Annie Rue Ice Cream (located in Parkallen) delivers pints to your door on the first Saturday of every month. You can choose between a two-pint or four-pint subscription, with the two-pinter starting at $105 CAD for three months. If you’re looking for a cheaper option, Made by Marcus also offers a pint subscription, with three months starting at $41.40.
A digital picture frame 🖼
This is a perfect gift for someone special to you. A digital picture frame is a great option for someone who you have a lot of memories and photos with. This one has 4.6 stars on Amazon and is a pretty good price compared to its competitors. Keep in mind: you do have to do a bit of work with this gift because you have to upload the photos to an app. But really, that doesn’t take too long! What’s cool about this is that you can send photos to be displayed on other frames, so if you get one for yourself, and one for your mom for example, you can send her pictures of your life and she can send pictures of hers back through the app. Then, those pictures are displayed on the frame! They can even include a message with it. It’s pretty cool and I know I’d be excited to receive one.
