The Beauty of Ukraine

Ukraine is a country full of beauty, passion and hope. With their beautiful language and culture, Ukarinian culture has spread throughout the world, even right here in Edmonton. 

As Russian aggression continues in Ukraine its more important than ever to highlight the beauty Ukraine has to offer. 

What do you think about when you hear “Ukraine”? You might think of perogies, easter eggs, and dance. While those are prominent in their culture, Ukrainians have so much more to offer. Lets start with Ukrainian dance. 

Ukrainian dancing is made up of all the different regions of Ukraine, Including regions like Volyn, Poltava, Bukovyna, Zakarpatia (Transcarpathian), and Hutsul. All of these regions are different in their own ways, with specific dance moves and different costume pieces. The National Dance group of Ukraine Virsky has so many perfect examples of all of the regions and character dances. Watch the video included and It will make you tired just watching it and also make you want to move. Groups like Shumka, Dunai, and Viter have made it their mission to show the beauty of Ukrainian Dancing right here in Edmonton.

Ukraine Is known as “The Breadbasket of Europe” and is the biggest supplier of wheat. With that wheat, they have created well known food that we love. Of couce we can thank Ukrainians for the delicious perogies (Вареники) [Varenyky] Cabbage Rolls (Голобці)[Holobsi] Crapes will dill and cheese (Налезники)[Naleznyky]  Sausage (Ковбаса)[Kovbasa] and Ukrainian Bread (Паска)[Paska] plus so much more. You won’t go hungry at a Ukrainian function, the Baba’s won’t let you.  

Ukraine has so much more to offer and it is our job to keep these tradition alive as the Ukrainians fight for their lives. Tune into NR92 and learn more about their beautiful culture.
