Superbowl LIX: The Rise and Fall of Dynasties
By Sam Willness on February 14, 2025

With another year of football action come and gone, and the NFL finally over, the league now has a new reigning champ. The Philadelphia Eagles put on an absolute clinic this past Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs who were looking to complete the coveted three-peat. However the score line did not reflect a game that one would think that a team that won the Superbowl back to back, as well as having someone who is currently in the goat debate, would have as Philadelphia put up 40 points, 24 of those in the first half all while keeping Kansas City scoreless. Now even though the Chiefs did put up some points in the second half, it was too little too late as they could not stop Philadelphia from scoring on both sides of the ball. However even though Philadelphia won the Superbowl meaning they managed to win it all what does this mean for the future of both teams and the sport.
The Future in Philadelphia
The Eagles were looking strong during the 2023-24 season behind their quarterback Jalen Hurts, however late season struggles made them fumble their record dropping to 11-6 and getting bounced in the first round by the San Francisco 49ers. This lead to the Eagles looking for that extra piece to take them farther in the off season, with that extra piece being pro bowler running back Saquon Barkley in free agency. And to say that Barkley was a good pickup for Philadelphia would be the understatement of the century as he went on to have a record breaking season getting the NFL record for most rushing yards in a full season and was a first team all-pro, offensive player of the year, and was 3rd in MVP voting, all while the Eagles had the 3rd best record in the NFL. Now with a Superbowl win and some of the best offensive and defensive lineups in the NFL, The Eagles will be looking to start their own dynasty as the future looks bright for the newly crowned Superbowl champs
The End of an Era In Kansas City?
The Kansas City started this season off strong coming off of their second Superbowl win in a row, starting 9 and 0 the Chiefs not only seemed likely to head to the Superbowl once again, but also had expectations of completing a three peat, pushing Patrick Mahomes into a whole new level of conversation when it came to the goat debate between him and 7 time Superbowl champion and the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady. With the season winding down and the Chiefs having a 15 and 2 record, it seemed inevitable that the Chiefs would do what the Tom Brady led Patriots could not, complete the three peat. Even through the first 2 rounds it seemed very likely considering they already beat their Superbowl matchup, the Philadelphia Eagles 2 years prior it seemed like the Chiefs would do it. However come Sunday Mahomes had a performance that might put him out of the goat debate for years to come. Not only did Mahomes have one of the worst starts in Superbowl history for a quarterback, the Chiefs also ended up not scoring until they were down 34 to nothing. Now with the three peat chances dead and star tight end Travis Kelce’s future looking uncertain it may just be an end of an era for the Kansas City Chiefs.
