Songs to Watch: Weird Edition

By Maxwell Read on October 31, 2024

I just can’t get enough good music videos! NR92 plays all the best music, but when you need something visual to make it a real party, I’ve got you covered. This time around, I’m going to give you the weirdest music videos I can think of. So here we go again, these are Songs to Watch: Weird Edition!

Cage The ElephantCome A Little Closer

For a great psychedelic romp through the cosmos, flying through space on a fire goat, into a planet made of skulls, with human teeth, this is a song to experience. Yes, that’s all in there. I’m not joking when I say I’m going to give you weird music videos, and this is only the beginning.

MGMT Your Life Is a Lie

MGMT has great music videos all around. You really can’t go wrong with any one of them, especially if we are talking weird music videos. Electric Feel, I think their most popular song to date, has them cutting and drinking the technicolour blood of the moon. ‘Nuff said? This song, Your Life is a Lie, is personally my favourite. Tonnes of quick cuts with double takes everywhere. Every scene is a masterpiece! I love this song!

Miike SnowPaddling Out

Space fairing dandies abduct man with magic dancing shoes and surgically transform him into a large nosed… sexy man? I think that’s an apt description of this music video. There’s some kind of story with the sexy man, as you’ll see him in a couple of different Miike Snow music videos, but I’m not really sure what the connection is.

Sir SlyHigh

It’s the little things in this music video I really like. Small warping effects here and there, it very much lives up to the title of the song. When you watch closely you can see the stagehands getting scenes ready for later, working in the background. Fantastic!

Jack WhiteOver and Over and Over

This is a great, weird music video, if maybe at times a little repetitive. Even the camera shots repeat! It’s a crazy music video of “Spot the Differences” in expedited time. Something about the choice of colour in each shot and scene composition seems to really make this music video weird. Really have to wonder how much time was put into changing that room that many times. I counted how many times we see that room change, and they did it 19 times! For a three-and-a-half-minute video, that’s a lot of set changes for the same room, over and over and over!

There are some of my favourite, mind-bending videos. Leave a comment and tell me what weird videos you know about to expand my mind further. And keep following NR92 for my next list of songs to watch. I’ll be delving into songs that have the funniest music videos! Don’t worry if you missed my last list, you can still check it out! And keep listening to NR92, we’re the station for the students, so if you’re into it, we’re into it!
