Snipers and Sluggers Oilers Update

By Matthew Graham on February 26, 2023

The Edmonton Oilers have been taking huge strides lately, showing signs of the team coming together and truly playing for each other. Ever since calling up Vincent Desharnais, and Evander Kane coming back from injury, the physicality of the team has increased tenfold, making the team much more difficult to play against. The defense has also improved since the beginning of the new year with both Desharnais and Broberg playing excellent hockey in both their roles. NHL insiders are saying that due to Broberg bringing his A game and Desharnai’s physical presence, the Oilers may not be in such desperate need of improving the defense through a trade.

The goaltending has also improved, especially with the play of Jack Campbell recently, he has won his last 8 starts with an average save percentage of 910% in those games not allowing more than 3 goals against him in all 8 of those games. The team has closed the gap in the standings too, currently tied for second in the pacific division with the L.A. Kings and Seattle Kraken, and only 3 points back of the division-leading Vegas Golden Knights. If the Oilers continue to play as they have been during their last 12 games going 9-1-2 there is a great chance they can reach 1st in the division and secure home ice in the playoffs. But with the trade deadline coming fast comment your mock trades you’d like to see the Oilers pursue and we will discuss it on the next episode.
