Reason #3 why you should listen to Kickin’ it with Kenz

Hey! I’m Kenzie! In case this is the first blog of mine you’re reading, I’m a 3rd semester radio student at NAIT. I’ve been going over the top 3 reasons why you should listen to my after-hours show, Kickin’ it with Kenz. Reason #1 is fun facts. Reason #2 is funny stories. Welcome to reason number 3, everything in-between.

This can include a range of topics. Things I’ve seen, heard or done that I feel are show-worthy. It really can be anything and that’s the fun of it! Nostalgia trips, server nightmares and movie reviews are just some of the miscellaneous topics I may dip into. I like to offer a mixed bag when it comes to content. If it’s weird, funny, cute, crazy or interesting, you can expect to hear about it on my show! All topics are a go on Kickin’ it with Kenz!

Lemme give you a little taster of what these random topics could cover! This is the story of how I broke my nose sleep-walking.

Growing up, I was a big sleep-talker, sleep-walker. When I was 8, my older sister and I shared a room with bunk beds. I was on the top bunk and one night, sleepy Kenz decided to do some late-night sleep-walking. Normally this probably would be fine, except for the fact that in this case, I was sleep-walking down the ladder of a bunk bed.

As you can imagine, this did not end well. The ladder was hand-made by my grandpa, so it was a little slippery and boy oh boy, I sure slipped the heck down that thing, with each rung of the ladder catching my mouth and nose as I went down.

You would think something like that would wake me up, but you would be wrong. I continued sleep-walking in circles in the room, marked by a trail of blood. According to my sister, who was watching this all go down, said that I went to leave the room and walked right into the wall next to the doorway…

It was at this point that she FINALLY decided to help out sleeping Kenz… sisters, am I right? My sister took me upstairs, keep in mind I’m still asleep at this point. She alerted my parents and they rushed to stop all the bleeding. Side note, I was also prone to nosebleeds as a kid, so my parents just assumed that’s what it was, but as they cleaned it up and the bleeding slowed down a bit, they realized my nose was completely torn at the septum. I finally woke up when we were on our way to the hospital… talk about a heavy sleeper.

I ended up getting looked at pretty quick and went into surgery. They put my nose back together, thank goodness, and there were a lot of stitches in my face keeping my nose together and more in my mouth since my teeth tore my lips apart during the fall down.

I still remember the first time I looked in the mirror after surgery and I BAWLED my little eyes out. It was already bad enough I could only open my mouth about the size of a pea so I was on a syringe diet, but I also looked like the child of Frankenstein, if they got hit in the face with a frying pan.

Eventually everything healed fine and I was back to my normal sleep-walking, sleep-talking self. Thankfully, there were no more incidents like this to follow.

You never really know what you’re gonna get on Kickin’ it with Kenz, but one thing is for sure… You’re gonna have a great time and you’re gonna be entertained! Add a little zing and laughter to your Monday! Listen to Kickin’ it with Kenz LIVE every Monday at 5 p.m. on NR92.
