Ranking PWHL Logos Based on How Hard They are to Draw
By Lucas Frith on December 15, 2024
The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has made waves since its inception, promising to elevate women’s hockey to new heights. One of the league’s standout features is its unique team branding, including eye-catching logos that resonate with local fanbases while representing the league’s innovative spirit. The logos are super cool and are very intricate in how they are designed. But how hard are they to draw? As someone with 0 artistic talent, I’m going to showcase my art abilities and rank these new logos based on how hard they are to draw.
6. Boston Fleet
I think mine looks pretty close to the original with all things being said. I think this is the easiest logo to draw because it’s just a capital B with some sharp edges and some waves in the actual letter. The logo makers make it look super sleek, I get a fishermen-type vibe and a deep sea creature feeling looking at the logo. The hardest part to draw is the inner waves. As you can see mine look terrible but on the actual logo the waves add a lot to this piece and make it stand out.
5. Toronto Scepters
This logo IMO is probably my favorite all things being said. I really like the look of it and the S and T being on top of each other is *chef’s kiss. It looks like an old-school baseball logo that reminds me of the San Francisco Giants or the New York Yankees. The hardest part of drawing the logo has to be the extra black lines but other than that it’s pretty easy to draw just an S on top of a T and some extra flair. The logo makers cooked on this one making it look very regal and giving a royalty-type feeling, which is what you want when you’re suiting up for a team that plays out of Toronto.
4. Minnesota Frost
So for this one, I felt I needed to draw on a black background to really get that white outline to POP. This one is still somewhat easy compared to the rest of this list, as someone who frequently has to draw/write the letter F. I think the outline for this one looks amazing and I think I crushed it, the rest of this piece though, I kind of threw the bag. The icicles on the F are the worst I’ve seen of so-called icicles. I think the logos makers killed this one with difficulty to draw because the icicles are hit or miss at best to try and recreate and the sharp edges make it look super sleek.
The main color of the logo is purple NO ONE uses purple in hockey. LOVE IT.
3. New York Sirens
This is where we really start to fall off the wagon I think. I didn’t do well with this one, I think the downfall was the start of the logo-making process for me. The way I wrote Sirens, is not good it’s not good-looking but I think the hidden NY in the background is where I flourished. The rest of it, didn’t do well the accents on the capital S’s look terrible they look like a siren on the actual logo but on mine, they just look like blobs. The logo makers with this one did alright, It’s kind of boring. I like the idea but I think it’s poor execution maybe the colours are what’s turning me off but the only cool part is the hidden NY.
2. Ottawa Charge
Had to bust the black background out once again to show the full depth of my art. The thing about this logo is I hate it I think it sucks it looks like a love child between the Calgary Flames and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Sadly as an Ottawa Charge fan, it’s the logo I got to support. My drawing looks better than the actual logo IMO, the hardest part to draw was the flames coming off the back of the O/C hybrid as well as the inner grey part that part sucked to draw. Why Ottawa Charge why pick something this lame? Terrible choice already by the Ottawa Charge.
1. Montréal Victoire
By far my worst performance but it’s also super difficult to draw. The actual logo looks amazing and my drawing doesn’t do it justice at all. With the inner lines pointing toward the fleur-de-lis maki ng it shines above the rest of the logo as well as the word Victoire looks great in the main logo on mine it looks a little wonky, to say the least. The shape looks more like a diamond on the real thing but mine looks like a home plate. The logo makers did a good job of capturing the French-Canadian vibe that Montreal sports teams need to give as well as incorporating the fleur-de-lis. They did a great job
Now that I’ve shown off my amazing art abilities, I’ll be curious to see how these logos evolve over the leagues of the New Year. How long will the “original 6” of the PWHL sport these logos? With hopes of expansion, what new logos will be created, what new cities will have a place to play for these talented women and will the new teams have better logos than the Ottawa charge?
