PWHL Preview: What To Expect From Vancouver Goldeneyes & Seattle Torrent

By MaKenzie McLennan on November 20, 2025

The PWHL is entering its third season with two Western expansion teams on Sunday November 23. Expectations for Seattle and Vancouver are higher than what you would normally expect from expansion teams in their first year.

On paper the Vancouver Goldeyes are one of the strongest rosters in the PWHL. Taking international experience, proven veterans, and emerging local talent to have a roster that’s built to win and grow as time goes on. Singing defenders Claire Thompson, Sophie Jaques, goalkeeper Emerance Maschmeyer, forwards, Jenn Gardiner and Sarah Nurse proves the teams intention to get off the ground winning and playing competitive hockey early on in their franchise years.

Seattle is no exception for the high expectations. The Torrent used the expansion draft and signing window to secure star talent and promising pieces for now and future. Forwards Hannah Bilka, Jessie Eldridge and Julia Gosling, and defenders Aneta Tejralova, Anna Wilgren, Megan Carter and Emily Brown were all selected during the expansion draft. Bilka, Gosling, Wilgren and Carter were all rookies in the 2024/2025 season. While also committing to instilling strong veteran leadership naming forward Hilary Knight captain. Knight started her PHWL career with the Boston Fleet and finished first in the PWHL in points (29) and tied for second in goals (15). Seattle’s roster has a blend of established veterans and young talent. Posing the Torrent in a position to be an exciting, dynamic, and competitive team that will have many eyes on them.

The PWHL has made big moves in their three years of existence. With two expansion teams, Sportsnet has announced they will be broadcasting 30 PWHL games this season. You can find the entire list here. Although all games are available to stream on the league’s YouTube Channel and at thephwl.ca this is a big step towards having games broadcasted regularly on sports channels.
