New Music by an Edmonton Artist!
By Paul David Mercier on January 30, 2026

Canadian AV (Ann Vriend) [VrEEnd] is a multiple Maple Blues Award recipient; an Edmonton Music Award and Alberta Centennial Award recipient; winner of the “RnB Single Of the Year” Award at the Edmonton Music Awards; AV has sold over 30,000 albums in her international career.
She is also the bandleader, lead singer, and arranger for soul/roots group AV & the Inner City. They recently won the “Emerging Artist” award at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival. https://annvriend.com/pages/av-and-the-inner-city-1
AV is also one of the few independent artists in recent history to break into the Top 100 Pop Charts on commercial radio in Germany, the world’s 4th-largest music market.
AV has recorded at Sony Studios and the Hit Factory in NYC, and has worked with esteemed producers Ray Bardani and Joe Chicarelli, and with multiple number-one hit songwriter Dan Hill.
AV has always written songs about confusion, searching, and questioning — of herself, and the culture around her. The outcome is what she half-seriously, half-jokingly calls “existentialist gospel.”
AV is currently on an extensive European tour. Canadian fans can look forward to seeing this busy artist on stages later this year.
NR92 listeners can look forward to hearing AV featured on the New Music Nooner in the near future.
