Music Festival Recommendations: Shambhala

By Nick Petlock on February 10, 2021

The thing I miss most about pre-COVID life is music festivals. I started attending music festivals as soon I turned 18, and have been going to at least 3 fest’s a year. I love the people, the displays, the themes, and most importantly the music. So, I thought I would help you prepare for post-COVID life with a list of music festivals to attend. Starting with my favourite festival, Shambhala.

What Is Shambhala?

Shambhala is an electronic music festival held during the last week of July at the Salmo River Ranch, a 500-acre farm, in the West Kootenay mountains near Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. The festival lasts 4 days and 3 nights and offers a mix of music and art in nature. Boasting six uniquely themed stages, each managed by their own Stage Director. All Stage Directors will book their talent, dream up the stage’s vibe and deliver unforgettable experiences year after year.

Come For The Music, Stay For The Shambha-love

What makes this festival so perfect, and makes the festival stand out above the rest, is the love. Shambhala focuses on loving and accepting each other and our planet. Hate, anger, bigotry, disregard for mother earth, none of these have a home at Shambhala. I promise you, you will not find one angry person, nor will you find a cigarette butt on the ground. Everybody is considered family at Shamb’, and the grounds are considered home. Though, this is something better experienced than explained.

So Much More Than Just A Music Festival

Though, there is so much more to do than just dancing to some amazing music with thousands of people. There are so many wonderful, unique attractions at this festival. Attractions such as the Friday Parade. On the Friday of Shambhala, you get to put on any costume you choose, and walk the ground with thousands of people for the annual Shambhala Friday Parade! After that, maybe go tie the knot at the Wedding Chappal. Yes, you read that correctly. You can get married here! What better way to express your Shambha-love than with a wedding. Get married, while listening to some absolute bangers playing in the background, surrounded by friends, family, and hundreds of strangers.

Please, Experience This.

There is honestly no way for me to explain the love and happiness I felt while at this festival. When I was at Shambhala, it felt like I was on another planet. I have never experienced that much peace and serenity in my life. All worries, stress, and drama that is in my life were left at the gate that read “Welcome Home.” I beg of you, go to this festival! I promise you when you leave, your heart will be so full of love and joy.
