Meatmans music picks: subgenres
By Will Dawson on October 14, 2025
Being in the radio business means music. Listening to it, announcing it and the best part…. recommending it to listeners.
So here it is, NR92’s DJ Meatman with his own list of favorite bands and recommendations. Let’s do this a little bit different, instead of bands being listed with descriptions you will instead fine an extensive list of Meatmans top 3 genres, with band recommendations included.

- Funk metal. that’s right, a unique spin on the rock and metal genres that leaves critics so unsure about what exactly it is that they made an entirely new genre for it. Music that makes you want to rock out but also catches you off guard with silly lyrics, raps, and guitar solos. Funk bass lines pop through the hard guitar solos, mixing the sounds beautifully. Recommendations for this genre are my personal favorite band, The Bloodhound Gang and the lesser-known Primus. Both of these bands are fun and catchy with their music, but not something you should listen to around children or your grandma. Listen at your own risk!
2. Nu-Metal. Theres a theme here, metal and the hundreds of subgenres that branch off of it. Industrial, Hip-Hop, Metal and Grunge all stuffed into one. Beautiful. Bands Like Korn, Limp Bizkit, and System of a Down are what come to mind when thinking of this 1990s genre. Here’s a list of just about all the bands that are considered Nu-Metal, since the genre is too vast to recommend just a few. List here!
3. Industrial. A vast category of music that’s identified by metallic and industrial tool like noises and remixes blended into metal and even classic rock elements. Favored by German artists this genre is the best for playing on a loud Bluetooth speaker and finally finishing that old 2000s horror game you set aside. Songs in this category are best for those who enjoy loud and darker themed songs and instrumentals, especially if you are already a fan of EDM as industrial features lots of electronic elements. Recommendations for this genre would be the ever iconic, KMFDM. Followed by Pig, Ministry, and Nine Inch Nails.
Now that Meatmans music knowledge has been bestowed on you…. go listen and find out what genres you like! If not these, there’s hundreds of subgenres and music types, taking a listen through these recommendations can help you discover similar bands or entirely new ones. It is time to discover!
