It can’t be a good movie without a good soundtrack.

I love movies. So why am I in the radio program? Well, audio and video go hand in hand. You’ll notice a good movie isn’t a good movie unless it has good sound design and a solid soundtrack to go with it. Have you ever watched a silent film? Sure, some of them are entertaining especially Charlie Chaplin but there’s a reason they aren’t that popular anymore.

These are some of my favourite movie soundtracks. Of course, it’s not a complete list, that would take way more than one blog post but here’s a few that I would rate at the top of my list.

Joel and Ethan Coen have been my favourite filmmakers for years now and they never seem to disappoint with the music selection for their films. The bluegrass music in The Oh Brother Where Art Thou and the style of music in The Big Lebowski soundtrack make these standout.

If you like Mike Myers, then maybe you’ve seen So I Married an Axe Murderer. He stars with Nancy Travis in this quirky comedy that has an entertaining soundtrack. And if you haven’t seen the movie, well, I’m not gonna spoil it for you but Mike Myers has more than one part and he plays it only as Mike Myers can.

Written by the Farrelly Brothers, Dumb and Dumber it’s definitely one of my favourite movies and soundtracks. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are Dumb and Dumber, and I’ve been a Jim Carrey fan since his days on In Living Colour and his stand-up comedy routine Jim Carrey’s Unnatural Act. There’s so many upbeat songs on the soundtrack it’s hard not to feel good watching and listening to this movie.

There you have just a few of my favourite soundtracks from my favourite movies. Have a listen to more of my favourite soundtrack songs on the NR92 Spotify page. Whew. That’s a lot of favourites.
