How One Man Changed a Schools Culture

The Colorado Buffaloes have taken the sports world by storm after a shocking 3-0 start to the 2023 College Football season led by Coach Prime (Deion Sanders). In 2020 Coach Prime was named the head coach of the Jacksonville State Tigers. After leading the tiger to an 11-2 and 12-1 record in his two seasons as coach, the eight-time pro bowler decided it was time for a change. Late into the 2022 season Deion Sanders took on a bigger role and was named the head coach of a struggling Colorado Buffaloes. After another disappointing season, Colorado decided to bring in Coach Prime for the 2023 season due to the poor performance of their ex-coach Karl Dorell who finished the 2022 season with a 1-11 record.

After being named the Head Coach, Prime decided to bring in a whopping 47 recruits to join the Buffaloes. Those recruits included the shining Quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Cornerback Shilo Sanders. You might’ve guessed it already by looking at their last names, and you’d be correct if you assumed those were his two sons. There was a lot of controversy surrounding Deion bringing in his son Shedeur as QB since it seemed it bias. Shedeur also only played the JSU Tigers which have never been seen as a prestigious football program, while Colorado is much a bigger football school who are in the dangerous PAC-12 conference. With the PAC-12 having Quarterbacks like Caleb Williams, Michael Penix Jr., and Bo Nix who are expected to be high overall draft picks for the next NFL draft, it seemed out of the ordinary to have an unproven QB like Shedeur as the starter.

With a highly anticipated first match-up against the 17th-ranked TCU Bullfrogs the Buffs and Shedeur silenced the doubters with a shocking upset beating TCU by just three points in a shootout with the final score being 45-42. Shedeur Sanders balled out and put up 510 yards with four touchdowns and zero interceptions. The next game the Buffs took it to Nebraska winning in blowout fashion with the score being 36 to 14. Last week they had a must-watch game against their rivals Colorado State. The game ended in victory for Coach Prime and the Buffaloes in a comeback win with the game ending in Overtime where the Buffs won with the score being 43-35. Shedeur led the Buffs to a comeback and put the team on his back finishing the game with 348 yards and 4 touchdowns. After the Overtime, the Colorado students stormed the field in excitement and joy. On September 23rd Colorado has their biggest test of the season facing Bo Nix and the 10th-ranked Oregon Ducks in what should be an action-packed game. Even if they lose this game Coach Prime has given Colorado fans something to be excited about and has revived Colorado’s passion for football. Every home game of the season for the Buffs so far has all been sold out, which is something that hasn’t been done in a long time for this team. With week four coming up the football world waits to see just how far Coach Prime can lead the Colorado Buffaloes.
