Edmonton’s 2024 concert lineup expands with more big-name artists

By Lexi McFarlane on December 12, 2023

We have some more clarity on which artists will be coming to Edmonton for shows next year.

December 5 turned out to be a major day for the Edmonton concert scene, with two big shows announced on that day alone. P!nk will be the latest artist to perform at Commonwealth Stadium, with her show slated for August 31, 2024. Meanwhile, Queens of the Stone Age will stop by Rogers Place during a Canada-wide tour in April 2024, with the Edmonton show slated for April 2.
These two shows add on to what is already becoming a big-name year for concerts in 2024. The likes of Metallica (playing at Commonwealth a week before P!nk’s show), Journey, Blake Shelton, Bruce Springsteen, and Foreigner have all been announced already, along with smaller shows at concert halls such as Ice Cube (at River Cree) and Ministry (at Midway Music Hall).
There’s still three weeks left in 2023 for 2024 shows to be announced, and even more acts for later in the year can still pop up during the early going of next year.
For all you concert-heads out there, this is looking to be another solid year of shows in a city that already hosts several of them.

There’s two other interesting tidbits as well, that prove intriguing for future years of the Edmonton concert scene. For one, rumours continue to swirl that Taylor Swift, who already has Toronto and Vancouver lined up as part of her mega-stadium tour, could soon add Edmonton to the list. When you look at the multiple artists in recent years who have sold out Commonwealth, such as Luke Combs, and especially Garth Brooks who got two sold-out nights there in 2022, it makes sense why Commonwealth appears lucrative to stadium tours.
Secondly, a new arena will be opening in Calgary in 2026. That may not seem like much to impact Edmonton, until you realize that Edmonton and Calgary, in both the NHL and concerts, are a package deal. Not too many artists choose one without choosing the other, although exceptions have been made since the opening of Rogers Place. Nevertheless, with the substandard-for-concerts Saddledome slated for replacement, having the option to play two very-new arenas on consecutive nights opens the door for a lot more artists to add Alberta to their itinerary.
Which Edmonton concert are you excited for next year? Let us know. Myself, I am 100 percent committed to seeing Queens of the Stone Age on April 2. Can’t wait to rock on!
