Edmonton Elks “Campus Clash” Is A Steal For Students.

By Kai Salzl on September 21, 2023

There’s a unique offer being made to university students around Edmonton this Friday. For the upcoming Edmonton Elks home game against the BC Lions this Saturday students from NAIT, UofA, MacEwan, and more will be given special accommodations. From the looks of things students may not only be set for a great Friday night party but also an entertaining game.

Some of the special offers that the Elks are offering students include 15-dollar tickets. Which is a discount price from what Elks tickets are normally priced for, such as the upcoming game against the Montreal Alouettes on October 14th that is going for 21 dollars. 6 dollars off may not exactly be a huge price cut but it’s still quite cheap for a professional sports game. Whatever they may lack in the ticket price they certainly make up for in food and drinks. They’ll be offering just two-dollar hot dogs and only 5.50 for beers! Moreover, they’ll be offering free transportation with buses that run from campus straight to Commonwealth Stadium. They’re even offering a bus ride to an afterparty at the Canadian Icehouse where students can skip the line with their Elks tickets. The Elks are certainly encouraging students to get wasted with these cheap beers and the after-party, but if you’ve been looking to do something like that this Friday night, this might be the event for you!

I know what you might be thinking. The Edmonton Elks recently broke the world record for the most home losses in a row in the history of sports. The Elks have a losing record this season with 4 wins and 10 losses and are currently last in the West Division. Why should you go and watch such an underperforming team? Well, the Elks have been performing better recently, and now more than ever is an exciting time to watch an Elks home game.

The Elks are 4 and 1 in their last five games. Two of those wins have been at home after they broke the curse against the Ottawa Redblacks on August 27th. Furthermore, despite having a poor record, the Elks still have a chance of making the playoffs this season. The CFL is a small league, so sometimes teams in lower spots in the standings can steal a playoff spot depending on if one division performs better than the other (and the West is currently doing better than the East overall). The Elks are neck and neck with the Redblacks and the Stampeders, so if they do better than those teams this season they just might steal a playoff spot. They’ll have a mountain to climb though, as the BC Lions have a record of 9-4 and are second in the West. However, the Elks beat the Saskatchewan Roughriders 36-27 last Friday, so far they’ve proven they can beat a team with a better record than them.

It’s sure to be an exciting game this Friday. With cheap tickets, food, and drinks for university students. They really tried to make it a great way to pass time with a group of friends. Plus, win or lose, there will still be an after-party you can go to afterward. I think it’s a great offer. The Elks are outdoing themselves with their attempts to fill the stadium this season.
