Doing That Radio Show The Right Way

By Mack Carlyle on September 25, 2023

That Radio Show is back on a new day and with a new mindset! This semester, we’re looking to make the show more professional and more fun.

Last semester, Danielle, Dillan, Kai and myself, Mack created That Radio Show. Every Wednesday for two hours, we would talk about whatever interested us and play whatever music we were feeling on that afternoon. It wasn’t the greatest way to plan for radio content, but the point of the show was to have fun at the end of a long school day.

Summer came and went, and the third semester began. Dillan dropped out of Radio, and the rest of us need to start thinking about practicum and our future careers. We need to have content for a demo and have as much practice on air as possible, so we are taking a new approach to That Radio Show.

We’re shifting to themed episodes. Every week we pick a theme, such as food or aliens, and the announcer breaks are about the theme. We have facts about the topics, and we throw our opinions into the conversation. We make posts on Instagram promoting the show and asking for followers to give us their opinions– For example, when the topic was aliens, we asked “If you could show one song to an alien, what would it be?’. We also play nothing but music related to our theme. If we have a show centered around food, we will play songs about food.

The end of our time at NAIT is approaching. By having fun and making quality work we can be proud to use on a demo in the hopes of getting a job. We want to be sure we make the most of our time here. If we can’t enjoy what we do and what we make, then what is the point of doing it? We are in radio after all, it’s supposed to be entertaining!

Listen to That Radio Show, every Monday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
