Connor Bedard happens Oil Kings lose 8-2

Hockey fans in Edmonton are very used to a player named Connor taking over a game and single handily winning their team the game. However, they aren’t quite as used to being on the receiving end of Connor’s skills. That is exactly what happened Sunday evening, as the top prospect of the 2023 NHL draft, Connor Bedard had a goal and four assists to lead the Regina Pats to an 8-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings. Bedard was all over this game, as the Oil Kings’ young team had zero answers for him. They tried putting multiple men on him he fired a no-look pass to Borya Valis to open the scoring. They tried taking away the passing lane, and it still found its way to its target. These are plays Edmontonians have seen Connor Mcdavid do for the past seven years but being on the receiving end of it is an entirely new feeling. We finally begin to understand what the fans of the other 31 NHL teams feel whenever their team has to try and stop Mcdavid.

It wasn’t all bad, though, as rookie Goaltender Ronin Geraghty looked like a building piece of the future and made 17 saves before receiving the mercy pull in the third period. This was not on him as his defence gave him little to no help stopping Bedard. Rilen Kovacevic continued his physical style of play as he had his second fight in as many games since being traded to the Oil Kings.

The Oil Kings also wore their brand-new alternate jersey for the second time in history.

They look just as slick as they did the first time. Next up for the Oil Kings, Medicine Hat Tigers come to Rogers Place for the Oil Kings’ final game before the annual Teddy Bear toss game. Considering the game is against the second-place Red Deer Rebels. I might finally learn what happens if the Oil Kings don’t score during the game.
