Cartoons and Cereal

By Nick Petlock on April 20, 2021

One of my favourite things to do as a kid was to get up way too early on Saturday morning, get my giant bowl of cereal, head to the basement and watch cartoons. Looney Tunes to be exact. I learned a lot from Bugs Bunny in my early years.

Of course, part of the excitement was the 90 minutes of Looney Tunes but the anticipation of the massive bowl of my favourite cereal is still one of my favourite Saturday morning memories. The tradition started with cereal selection. This was an important decision because it set up the entire day not just the hour and a half of cartoons but how the rest of the day played out. Make the wrong decision and your day would be completely messed up.

One of my favourites, when my mom would buy them was Pac-Man cereal. That was a treat. Now as an adult I just get myself some Lucky Charms since Pac-Man isn’t around anymore. They’re kind of the same. The cereal part with the marshmallows.

Fortunately, there’s kind of a replacement for Pac-Man cereal but as for the Saturday morning cartoons, those still haven’t and can probably never be replaced. I mean, how many times can someone watch a crazy coyote fail at trying to drop an anvil on an arrogant Road Runner. But at least it wasn’t the boring cartoons or the boring cereal.
