Best Things about the Early Games on the First Broadcast of Coast to Coast

With the new NHL season starting the Amazon Prime network has picked up some of the NHL broadcast rights. Thursday was the first look at what Prime has cooked up for the NHL this year and they did not disappoint.

The two things Prime is rolling out this season are Monday Night Hockey and Coast to Coast. The Coast to Coast will be every Thursday for this season of the NHL. The first broadcast went off with a bang with them having quad boxes for multiple games to see the action. One of the really nice parts of it is you don’t have to deal with blackouts. You can see every game because they’re bouncing around the entire league.

The main goal of this broadcast is definitely to replicate the beauty of the NFL red zone, where your bouncing around the games to the action of the each game instead of watching the “filler” of just one game. The hosts they keep it kind of silly and try to follow in the lines of a TNT broadcast instead of your regular Sportsnet broadcast. With the panel being P.K Subban, Toni Petrillo and Jason Demers it was very fun to watch them navigate through the first ever broadcast of this type for the NHL.

The early slate started with LAK and BUF, OTT and FLA, TOR and NJD, BOS and MTL and the fans were not disappointed with the early games having tons of action to bounce around to.

The big story out of the BUF and LAK game is the Darcy Kuemper situation in LA with the organization putting their faith in a goalie who got beat out for the starter job in WAS, the Kings manage to win against a BUF team that looks to take a step this season and break the longest playoff drought in the current NHL. Kings 3 – Sabres 1

Ottawa rolls the defending Stanley cup champs in the Panthers. With Linus Ullmark looking great this game only allowing 1 goal on 31 shots, the Panthers who look a little tired from there 6-4 victory over Boston earlier in the week. The Sens young core looked to be firing on all cylinders last night with Tim Stüzle scoring the first and third goal for the Sens and Shane Pinto with pin point accuracy got the second goal. Gustav Forsling was the bright space for Florida with him getting the only goal for the Cats. Senators 3 – Panthers 1

Toronto makes the ballsy decision to have a rookie goalie start for them against the run and gun NJ Devils, Dennis Hildeby made 22 saves in his NHL debut for the Toronto Maple Leafs, on the other end of the ice Jacob Markstrom had a bad outing with 4 goals on 22 shots. The devils are really hoping Markstrom can play like his days from VAN. The Leafs got their scoring from the depth players on their team with Max Pacioretty Bobby McMann and Steven Lorentz who was on a PTO with Toronto earlier in the year. TOR 4 – NJD 2

Barn burner alert! The Canadians and Bruins who already have a long historic rivalry had a crazy game yesterday. Both teams offensive units looked great with plenty of goals from both sides of the ice. Bruins manage to win the game by getting 4 goals unanswered. The story for the bruins is definitely Mark Kastilic who was playing an amazing 200 foot game with 2 goals and 2 shot blocks. Montreal’s young players looked good this game with rookie d man Lane Hutson getting 2 assist’s. BOS 6 – MON 4

Overall I think this is a really great way to distribute hockey and I think the NHL is starting to smarten up about how to broadcast these games. I can’t wait to check it more this season with this kind of broadcast being every Thursday i think NHL fans will love it by the end of the season.
