A quick dive into the Red Hot Chili Peppers

By Ewan King on December 19, 2022

Growing up, the only music that my parents listened to was older, 60s to 80s groups. Now because of this, it was my favourite genre of music. But that changed quickly when my best friend introduced me to a certain band.

One of the biggest bands from the past 3 decades, it’s the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

‘Scar Tissue’ is the second biggest, but the prettiest song in their repertoire according to Rolling Stone Magazine. Also, the debut single from their 1999 album ‘Californication.’ When you think of the Chili Peppers, the first thing that pops into most people’s minds is the extremely unique and funky sound of their bassist Flea. His favour of slapping the bass, rather than picking it, creates that funk sound that the band is known for. He does it so well in fact, that many people would consider Flea to be the greatest bassist of all time.

This man can hit some of the most wicked bass solos out there, with one of my favourites coming from their 2016 album ‘The Getaway,’ on the track “Goodbye Angels.”

Still making music, ‘Tippa My Tongue’ is the first single from their brand-new album ‘Return of the Dream Canteen.’ The new album dropped on October 14th, and is the second of two new albums the Chili Peppers released this year, the first being their album ‘Unlimited Love.’ These are the first albums released by the Chili Peppers since 2016.

The fact that they’ve been releasing new music since the late 80s and they can still drop a song and get it to the number-one spot is crazy. And although they’re known for their unique bass, it would be a crime to neglect the guitar from John Frusciante. The riffs that Frusciante has under his belt are iconic. One of his most famous comes from their album ‘Stadium Arcadium,’ where although he repeats the same riff the entire song, he famously never uses a loop pedal for live performance. Of course, I’m talking about one of their most popular songs to date, ‘Snow (Hey Oh).’

With new music out right now and more sure to come, it seems like the Chili Peppers are on a train that’s never set to stop. Catch hits from the Red Hot Chili Peppers on NR92.com.
