A Look Into Newest Edmonton Oiler: Jake Walman
By Benjamin Thomson on March 8, 2025
From the start of the season the Edmonton Oilers have had a glaring hole in their lineup. A 2nd pair defenseman was a clear necessity for this team as they move into the playoffs. The Oilers answer to this need? A puck moving, 6 ‘1, 218 pound defenseman from San Jose, Jake Walman.
To EDM: Jake Walman
To SJS: 2026 1st RD, Carl Berglund
Walman started his career in St. Louis before being moved to Detroit where he would spend the next three seasons and start to break out as a defenseman. Over the summer Steve Yzerman (Detroit Red Wings General Manager) traded Walman to San Jose with a 2nd RD pick as a salary dump. Walman responded to this trade by putting up 32 points in 50 games on a brutal San Jose Sharks team. Walman only sits at -1 for his plus minus which is 2nd on the Sharks. This trade looks to make the Oilers D-core more complete in hopes that it pushes the team over the top to win the Stanley Cup.
