6 hidden gems on NR92.com that will leave you wanting MORE (#4 is super sus)

Some films can’t be seen with your eyes.
Here in the Media Communication and Production program, we’re taught how to use “Theatre of the Mind“: a tactic that uses both verbal cues, music and sound effects to describe a feeling or action – a moment. These choices in audio creation are what makes a great commercial, promo, song, audiobook, you name it. There was once an audience for the time-honoured tradition of Radio Plays; nowadays, less so.
But one thing that really makes this program – and, by extension, this radio station – a really special place to be, is the encouragement of imagination and creative play. Unique voices are given platforms to produce Something Worth Sharing: for classmates, for NR92, for ourselves. And once upon a time, it was a class assignment to produce a Radio Drama.
Thankfully, the NR92 site has a complete catalogue of Radio Dramas for you to choose from (see that text at the top of the page at the far right? Easy access). I’ve taken the liberty of listening to each and every one to share with you my favourites: the top of the NR92 box office. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have.

PULPSPEARE
Such an idea was born from lunacy, I fear… alas, all is in Jest. A reimagining of Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction, spoken with the wit and poetry of the great William Shakespeare. Dost thou know the title of a quarter-pounder in France? Listen here.

LITTLE BLUE RUNNING SHOES
A vegan girl from a vegan family is taking a vegan sandwich to her Aunt. What deadly secrets could await this harmless vegan? Surely no dark secrets could be uncovered in this harmless tale of self-discovery… No cows were harmed in the making of this Radio Drama. Listen here.

SKIP & BANDIT’S GRAND ADVENTURE
Skip and Bandit are the best of friends – only one of them is a raccoon. A story of love and loss, this is the tale of every girl’s dream: A cute boy and his furry companion pull up to change her life (and it never gets weird with the raccoon). Feel the fur(r)y here.

THEY ARE AMONG US
Call me “sus” but I was tickled pink to see that this existed on the site. An exploration of the relationship dynamics between untrustworthy crewmates and the ones they seek to evict – that’s drama, baby! It doesn’t disappoint, either. Listen here (this link is NOT an imposter).

CHARLOTTE AND CHARLIE
Made me cry. I’m not afraid to admit it. Bonnie and Clyde ain’t got nothin’ on these two. Have some feelings here.
AND THE NUMBER ONE AUDIO-BOX-OFFICE SMASH-HIT RADIO DRAMA IS………………………………..

STAR SKIRMISHES
ALRIGHT. So. This is obviously a Star Wars parody, but somehow, it’s much more than that. Great editing, clever dialogue, a snappy pace of wit and humour that leaves you both struck with passion for the series and also questioning what you even liked about it in the first place. Plus – the producers used that great John Williams soundtrack, so it really feels like you’re having a Star Skirmish. Pew Pew here.
That’s all from me, but there’s so, so much more. Click on ‘Radio Dramas‘ to take a dive into the deep end of a producer’s dreamscape, and close your eyes to see all that past NR92 students had to offer.
The best part – these audios air every Sunday at 10pm on NR92.com. Tune in and you won’t be disappointed (I sure wasn’t!)
