5 tips to improve your skills at Pokemon Unite

1. Use a Pokemon you are comfortable with

Don’t worry about what everyone says about the Pokemon you are using. If the Mon you are using isn’t high on people’s tier list, but you have a high win rate and actively contribute to those wins, then keep using it. You are having success with it, and that’s what matters. If you are interested about learning about a specific Pokemon check Pokemon Unite Database They have information on every Pokemon including stats and best items and emblems.

1a. Don’t use Garchomp

Do you know how I was talking about using whatever Pokemon gets you victories? Well, Garchomp is the one objection to the rule. The problem with Garchomp is no matter how good you think you are with it. You aren’t that good. Garchomp is arguably the weakest Mon in the game right now, and most of the time, when you pick it, you are putting your team down 5v4 right from the start.

2. Team Composition is important

Pokemon are separated into different roles based on what they are typically used for. I say typically because Mr. Mime doesn’t feel like a supporter right now. There are five roles: attacker, speedster, supporter, all-rounder and defender. Usually, as a team, you want one all-rounder and defender and then at least one or two attackers or speedsters, and then the final can be anything. It is possible to make it work without a team composition like that, but it’s tough and normally requires the opposing team also not to follow this composition.

3. Choose your objectives wisely

Alright, Rotom gamers, where are you at? It is your time to shine. With a new map comes new objectives to secure, which spawn with seven minutes left and three minutes after it is defeated until there are two minutes left, at which point they stop spawning and any currently on the map despawn. On the top path, we have Regieleki, which is Rotom on Steroids. When defeated, it moves towards the opposing team’s goal zone dealing tons of damage to enemies in its way. When it reaches the goal zone, it scores 20 points and leaves the zone defenceless for 25 seconds, meaning you can score uninterrupted. At random, one of Regice, Registeel or Regirock will spawn on the bottom path. Each gives about half the experience Drednaw gave plus a buff unique for 90 seconds to each Regi. Steel boosts attack and special attack, rock boosts defence, and special defence and ice boosts HP recovery. Ice is by far the weakest objective in the game. It only increases by 10 percent, which is worse than the Leftovers held item, one of the worst held items in the game. Rock and steel are decent, but considering how much more of a factor early scoring is and the fact that you don’t know which Regi will spawn in until it spawns means that rotating to the top and getting Eleki is usually the best option.

4. Scoring Updates

Pokemon Unite is unique in that it doesn’t show the score at all times. It does, however, give you hints five minutes in and every minute for the final three minutes. Here is what each update means. If the update says, “it’s a close battle,” your team is either ahead or behind by 20 points or less. If it says, “we have a lead,” you are ahead by 21 to 99 points. If it says, “we’re struggling to keep up,” you are behind by 21 to 99 points. If it says, “we have a huge lead,” you are ahead by over 100 points, and if it says, “we’re really struggling,” you are behind by 100 or more points.

5. Don’t initiate Raquazza if you are ahead

Continuing from the last 2 points, there is one final objective that spawns with two minutes, Raquazza. When defeated, it gives you a shield for the rest of the match until the opposing team destroys it. This shield also halves the time it takes to score and makes your goals uninterruptable until destroyed. At the two-minute mark, you get a score update. If you are winning, DO NOT INITIATE. Let the opposing team initiate, then box them out and if it’s low enough on health, take it out yourself; otherwise, retreat and repeat the process. Starting Raquazza when ahead can lead to the opposing team sniping it and then winning the game.
