5. Skyler cheated on Walter before she knew he was a meth lord

In season 3, Skyler has no knowledge of Walters’ criminal activity. To the best of her knowledge, he is a terminal cancer patient who has distanced himself from the family as a desperate attempt to cope with his diagnosis. Now- Walter has never been a good person let alone husband, but for Skyler to up and cheat on him with an old fling when she believed he was dying of cancer was a top tier scummy move.

4. Skyler hunts down Jesse Pinkman for selling Walter pot

In season 2, Skyler suspects Walter of smoking Marijuana to cope with his cancer. Instead of speaking with him about it, and trying to understand not only the physical toll chemotherapy is taking on him but the mental toll of a terminal diagnosis, she drives to Jesse Pinkman’s house. She does so to confront him about selling pot to Walter and demands he stops. This is where the popular meme ‘I’m Skyler White Yo’ comes from.

3. Skyler gives Walter the silent treatment when he moves back in

In season 5, episode 3 titled ‘Hazard Pay’ Walter moves back into his family home. This comes after months of living in an apartment across town when Skyler kicks him out in season 3. Skyler kicks him out after finding out about his drug dealing, while also calling for divorce. Yet- in season 4, episode 5 she tells their son, Walter Jr., that his father will be moving back in ‘Tuesday’ after attempting to reconcile with Walter. And yet, when Walter finally does move back in, in season 5, it is met with criticism, skepticism and the cold shoulder from Skyler. She went from forcing Walters hand, promising Walter Jr. his dad would move back in to resenting him for ‘forcing’ his presence on the family.

2. Skyler encouraged Walters drug empire and then crucified him for it

By the end of season 3 and throughout season 4, Skyler is not only laundering Walters money but encouraging further criminal activity. She goes as far as to steal 615,000 dollars from their savings to help save her former boss and fling, Ted, from jail time due to unpaid taxes. Despite laundering money for Ted, Walt and sending two of Saul Goodman’s goons after Ted when he refused to pay the IRS, by season 5 Skyler is condemning Walter for his actions. Skyler forces Walt to remove their children from the home as punishment for his actions.

1. Skyler forces Walter to receive cancer treatment

Despite all of the back and forth on her support for Walter’s criminal lifestyle, by far the most selfish of Skyler White’s actions happens in season 1. Season 1, episode 5, titled ‘Grey Matter’, Skyler hosts an intervention for Walter about his refusal to accept treatment for his terminal cancer. She involves their immediate family, Hank and Marie as well as their son, Walter Jr. When facing the reality of terminal cancer- it should be up to the individual how they decide to live out the end of their life. Skyler forced treatment on Walter without considering the harsh effects of Chemotherapy, the debt her family would incur or the quality of Walter’s end of life. She only cared about himself and her feelings amidst Walters’ terminal cancer diagnosis.
