The Nugget vs. artificial intelligence

AI is becoming more and more common. As beneficial as it may be at times, it’s causing a new challenge for The Nugget, NAIT’s official newspaper.
Alleah Boisvert, Senior Editor for The Nugget, noted that of the 4 years she’s been working for the paper, this past year she has seen a spike in the use of AI in student submissions. She admits there’s a time and place for AI, but she says that this is a problem that The Nugget is trying to find a solution to without deterring current or future contributors.
“When students submit AI-generated articles to me, it’s frustrating and it’s a huge hurdle because we are still figuring out how to… how to deal with this issue in a way that doesn’t discourage people from writing for us.”
As an experienced writer, Boisvert says she can instantly recognize the use of AI in writing.
