NAITSA’s Emergency Food Centre supports students in need

Food insecurity impacts the academic performance and well-being of students.
NAITSA’s Emergency Food Centre provides food hampers to students in need during fall and winter terms. This ensures that students dealing with food insecurity have a resource for food and personal hygiene products.
NAITSA president, Jenna Luczak, says food insecurity affects how students learn. “Food insecurity means that you’re taking in less nutrients, which means that you’re starving your body and your brain. The brain is a muscle. A functioning organ. It needs nutrients in order to take in information.”
This past fall, 194 hampers went to students in need and 524 throughout the year. The NAITSA Emergency Food Centre continues to help students in need.
