NAITSA aims to help students with AI

This semester marks the first time NAIT has allowed AI to be used in class, so students now have the chance to try these new tools.

With the release of user-friendly programs such as ChatGPT almost a year ago, AI is no longer just a tech curio. It’s both easily available and able to converse about any topic, which makes it appealing to students looking for a little help.

Chris Black, NAITSA’s Student Involvement Coordinator, says they’ve had their eye on ChatGPT long before it was allowed in the classroom:

“At NAITSA we decided to investigate it for our own purposes … we live in this modern world; we know that AI is not going away and if we can use it to help our jobs a little bit and make things efficiently, we wanted to know that, and also set those boundaries.”

Although it is no longer prohibited at NAIT, Black warns it is important to know when AI is useful and when it may just cause you trouble.
