NAIT Makerspace is trying to grow

By Thomas McPhee on October 19, 2023

The NAIT Library Makerspace can give you new opportunities to get hands-on, if you can find it.

Students can go to the back of the library to try out the variety of modern maker equipment, including 3D printers, CNC routers, and a laser cutter. The space is certainly capable, but its backroom location limits student engagement.

There are plans to grow the Makerspace by connecting to NAIT’s classrooms.

“If you get a 90th email from your portal post, you might look at it, but you might not. So I think the work to make curriculum connections and tie in to programs, and that kind of work is probably where we need to go,” says Carmen Reems, the Library Director.

They may not have to struggle with obscurity for long. Reems also says they are looking for a new, dedicated location for the Makerspace.
