NAIT begins allowing AI in some classes

If you’ve read your syllabus this semester, you’ll have noticed NAIT is beginning to allow AI in the classroom.
ChatGPT and other AI tools present a dilemma for use in education. A poor response from AI gives wrong information, but a good response becomes a great tool to cheat.

Even though AI in the classroom is not a solved issue, there are ways to use it responsibly, such as when studying.

“AI is still very much in its infancy, which means it stumbles a lot … so the great thing when using it as a study device is you have to look at the output with a critical eye which is helping you master your studying of that topic,” says Chris Black, NAITSA’s student involvement coordinator.

Black says ChatGPT’s imperfect performance can be useful as a study buddy, but for both moral and practical reasons, it can’t give all the answers.
