Artists and the issue with AI
By Macy Jackson on October 30, 2025
The inclusion of AI within our daily lives have been growing over the past couple years, especially within the artist community. Many see this as a negative due to AI-generated art being trained on the work of already existing artists, and concern has been growing over the inclusion of AI-generated art at events like Fan Expo Canada, where it was showcased in Artist Alley to be sold alongside art made by local illustrators.
Despite this, AI’s presence isn’t entirely unwelcome, and some local artists made the effort to point out the positives that AI can have when it comes to their works.
One artist said “A lot of people would say that it lacks the ability to let people have creativity because it is so easy and quick, but if it’s used properly it can be a tool to help expand the art community.”
Another stated that she would “Maybe consider using AI in art as a way to get ideas or for references.”
While it does have its downsides, the rise of AI doesn’t automatically mean hope is lost for artists. Instead, it can be used to their advantage when it comes to references or as a quick and easy visualization tool for upcoming projects that may not have been so accessible otherwise.
