NAIT Athletics’ Media Coordinator is trying to get more students engaged in Ooks sports games. Alex Galenza talks about the “HOOTS for the OOKS” initiative, teaching newcomers about sports and engaging new friendships along the way. Galenza says people gravitate towards the things they know – why not know about NAIT sports?
“You get pizza. And then they also explain the rules of the game, just because if you don’t understand what’s happening and you’ve never been to a volleyball or basketball game, it’s kind of hard to want to go to a game if you don’t understand what’s happening.”
Galenza hopes the opportunity to make signs and meet featured players gets more bodies in the crowd. You are given up to an hour and a half before games to enjoy snacks, free prizes and build community. The only supplies required are enthusiasm and yourself! “HOOTS for the OOKS” invites you to get ready with the crowd before the next women’s hockey game starts on October 2nd at 6 p.m.
