Bullying at City Hall

A new report says nearly 1 in 5 City of Edmonton workers has been bullied on the job.

Many of the complaints came from workers who said they’d been bullied by their managers.

Tanya Spencer, the Lead for NAIT’s Student Counselling, says despite popular belief, bullies don’t typically have low self-esteem.

“Bullies tend to have inflated self-esteem, so they are not necessarily all that liked by other people but they expect to be catered to.”

Mayor Don Iveson has admitted the city council may be guilty of harassing some city workers, and has promised to become a better mediator with administration. The report was released earlier this month and has prompted an apology from City Manager Linda Cochrane.
